The purpose of this ministry is to welcome, inform, and prepare parents and godparents of children to be baptized. Preparation for baptism includes attendance at the 11am Sunday Mass and the session to follow on one of the scheduled dates. These sessions are offered every 2 months.
Below is a PDF of the preparation sessions, as well as the dates and times for baptism. Baptisms are typically celebrated at Mass during 4:30pm Mass on Saturday or 11am Mass on Sunday. They may also be celebrated on Sundays at 12:30pm. Let us know if the provided dates and times are not convenient for your family.
Please fill out the baptism registration form which is also included below. The form can be returned in the way that is most convenient for you - by email, mail, fax, in person, or in the Sunday collection. If you have any questions please call Mary at x321 or Cathy at x349. All contact information is included on the form.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is the process through which those seeking to fully join the Catholic Church are welcomed. This process includes those who have never been baptized, baptized Catholics who never received a religious education, and those who were baptized in other Christian faiths who need to learn about the Catholic tradition. It is a journey of Faith. In the company of a sponsor from the parish community, and through experiences of faith sharing, prayer, instruction and celebration, individual seekers enter into the sacramental life of the church at the Easter Vigil.
We welcome any parishioner who wishes to serve on the RCIA Team as a sponsor, a catechist or in hospitality to contact the parish office.
Children prepare to celebrate Eucharist for the first time by attending, with their parents/guardians, three events developed to assist parents in the sacrament formation process of their children, similar to preparing for 1st Reconciliation. Families also attend a rehearsal during the days prior to the 1st Eucharist masses. Christ Our Light celebrates 1st Eucharist on three or four dates during the Easter season, during the weekend masses. Children are eligible to prepare for 1st Eucharist once they have completed a full year of faith formation and have celebrated 1st Reconciliation.
Reconciliation is offered at 3:30 PM on Saturday or any time by appointment. You may also check the calendar for reconciliation services in Advent and Lent.
Children prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to the reception of First Eucharist. Sacrament prep has been taken out of the class room. At Christ Our Light this is a family centered process. Parents and children attend three preparation events, one each in September, October, and November. Families have the option of celebrating 1st Reconciliation during the Christ Our Light parish Advent Reconciliation service in December, or the parish Lenten Reconciliation service during Lent. Children are eligible to prepare for the sacrament of Reconciliation once they have completed a full year of faith formation.
This program prepares 8th grade students of the parish to receive the sacrament of Confirmation in their freshman year of high school. Small groups meet several times throughout the spring to prepare for the sacrament. The program concludes with a Closing Retreat.
